THEORETICAL OVERVIEW
Untold Music Festival, held annually in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, has established itself as one of Europe's premier electronic music events since its inception in 2015. Attracting hundreds of thousands of fans from around the world, Untold is renowned for its impressive stage designs, vibrant atmosphere, and a lineup featuring top DJs such as Armin van Buuren and David Guetta.
VISUAL IDENTITY
Over the past month, I have developed a flexible visual system for the Untold Music Festival, aiming to introduce a fresh, new era for the event. The visual identity is built on a grid that ensures high x-height, making the letters easily readable on both large displays and small screens. To move beyond the traditional Bauhaus grid style, I've incorporated ink traps and made precise typographic adjustments. These changes give the letters an organic feel while still respecting their grid-based origins. The negative space created by subtracting the positive letterforms from the geometric grid, along with the ink traps, forms the core components of the visual identity. This flexible system creates a myriad of shapes and forms, transforming the simple identity into a dynamic visual language that’s present in every aspect of the festival’s branding.
